AIRPORT PARKING

What are the parking options and rates at the airport?

To find out about parking options, rates, and services offered at FLL, visit the Parking page.

How do I get to the terminals from the parking garage?

Located at the lower level of the parking garage, there is a courtesy garage tram that transports passengers to each terminal.

Watch for tram stops on the lower level of the Garage Complex. The trams run every eight minutes and will transport you quickly and effortlessly to your terminal.

Who do I contact regarding items lost in the parking garage or parking shuttles?

For all items lost in the airport, including the security checkpoints and shuttle buses, please contact the Lost and Found Office at 954-359-2247. The office is closed on weekends and on Broward County holidays.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)

Where can I get general information for travelers with a disability?

Check the Federal Aviation Administration's web site. 

Where can a passenger request a wheelchair?

Passengers requiring the use of a wheelchair must contact their airline to accommodate them upon their arrival at the airport.

What is the Florida TTY/Relay Service phone number?

1-800-955-8770 (V) or 1-800-955-8771 (TTY).

How does the "ADA Parking Access Feature" work?

It is available for persons with upper body mobility limitations. Rather than pulling a ticket, vehicle information is recorded via speaker phone and remote camera. Parking charges are calculated upon exiting the parking lot.

I am a patron with a Disabled Parking decal, am I entitled to "courtesy" parking?

Persons operating vehicles that display a Florida Toll Exemption permit or that are equipped with specialized equipment for utilization by a person, who has a disability, such as foot or hand controls, lifts or ramps, will be provided with courtesy parking, subject to Aviation Department verification procedures.

How do I find out information about airline baggage services?

For locations and hours of operations of individual airline baggage services, contact your  airline.

Is there a baggage storage service available at the airport?

Yes, contact Business and Currency Service Center at 954-359-5505 or go to public baggage storage for more information.

If I am a passenger embarking on a cruise, can I arrange in advance for my return flight check-in at the port?

Yes, some airlines offer this services. Contact your airline for additional information. For more information about cruising and luggage, read Tips for Cruise Passengers (PDF)

Who do I contact regarding my lost baggage?

Passengers must contact the your airline, see the Tenant Directory for phone numbers.

Where can I get a Smarte Carte for my luggage?

The Smarte Cartes are located throughout the airport facility; look for the Smarte Carte signs outside the terminal or baggage claim area.

For safety regulations, the Smarte Cartes are not allowed in the any of the courtesy shuttle buses. However, if the passenger plans to continue to use the cart once they get off the bus, they can request a smarte carte token from the driver, which will allow them to get a new cart at no charge. Return the carts at any receptacle locations and receive $0.25 refund per cart.

CRUISE PASSENGERS

Is there a free shuttle to Port Everglades?  If not, what are the options?

There is no free shuttle to Port Everglades. There are three transportation options: shared ride, luxury sedan, and taxi cab.

1. Shared Ride - Shared "van" rides offered through GO Airport Shuttle cost $11 per person to Port Everglades. A van will hold a maximum of ten passengers.

2. Luxury Sedan - GO Airport Shuttle also offer exclusive car rides to Port Everglades for $40 (for up to four people).

3. Taxi Cab - Taxi cabs are also available at $12 (estimated) based on the meter reading. Cabs accept up to five people for the fare stated on the taxi’s meter.

Some taxi cabs accept credit cards. If you prefer to pay for a taxi cab with a credit card, make sure you tell this to the dispatcher at the transportation podium. They will request a cab that is equipped with a credit card acceptance machine. Call Yellow Cab at 954-777-7777 for more information.

What is the distance from the Airport to Port Everglades?

The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is approximately a 10 minute ride from Port Everglades. Read about the transportation options to Port Everglades above.

What is the distance from the Airport to the Port of Miami?

Travel time to the Port of Miami is about 45 minutes without traffic. We recommend allowing at least 90 minutes for travel, especially during morning and evening rush hour. 

What are the transportation options to the Port of Miami?

There are four transportation options from FLL to the Port of Miami: shared ride, luxury sedan, taxi cab, and train.

1. Shared Ride - GO Airport Shuttle offers shared van rides (per person) for $21 to the Port of Miami. A van will hold a maximum of ten passengers. They accept cash and are equipped with a credit card acceptance machine.

2. Luxury Sedan - GO Airport Shuttle also offer luxury sedan rides (for up to four people) for $70. For more information, visit GO Airport Shuttle or call 800-244-8252/ 954-561-8888. 

3. Taxi Cab - Taxi cabs are also available from FLL. The fee will be about $67. Cabs accept up to five people for the fare stated on the taxi’s meter.

Some taxi cabs accept credit cards. If you prefer to pay for a taxi cab with a credit card, make sure you tell this to the dispatcher at the transportation podium. They will request a cab that is equipped with a credit card acceptance machine.

4. Train - Tri-Rail (commuter train) does not offer direct service to the Port of Miami but gets you close. You would have to take a taxi from the Miami train station to the Port of Miami. For more information, call 800-874-7245.

Tri-Rail provides free shuttle buses from the FLL terminals to the Tri-Rail station just a few miles from the airport. 

Shuttle bus stops are located on the lower level:
• At the west end of Terminal 1
• Between Terminals 2 and 3
• Between Terminals 3 and 4

Can I go through security as soon as I arrive?

You must have a boarding pass and your baggage checked-in with your airline before you can go through security. The earliest some airlines will check baggage is 2 to 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure. Contact your airline for check-in times.

After picking up our baggage, can we stay at the airport until we are ready to board our ship?

You may stay at the Airport until you are ready to depart for your cruise. If you are using the cruise ship’s transportation, a cruise line representative will meet you in baggage claim, unless otherwise specified.  

Can we leave the Airport during a layover?

Depending on the duration of your layover, you may leave the Airport. Remember to leave enough travel time back to the airport and time to go through the security checkpoint.

Consider renting a car and exploring beautiful South Florida. The Airport’s Rental Car Center is conveniently located across from Terminal 1 with 12 rental car companies. Another option is to take a taxi to the beach, mall, or gambling location. For more information on local attractions, go to the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau web site. 

Should I bring a child safety seat if I need transportation to the port?

Yes, you must bring a child saftey seat. The Airport and transportation providers do not provide child safety seats of any type.

Do you provide a service that will take my baggage from the Port to the Airport so I can explore the area?

Some airlines have arrangements with baggage companies to process your baggage directly from your cabin to your airplane. We encourage you to utilize this service. It will allow you more mobility and time, especially for those with departures later in the day. Contact your airline for additional information.

When can I check-in my baggage when returning from a cruise?

The earliest some airlines will check baggage is 2 to 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure.  You may experience longer than normal check-in lines, especially with morning departures. Contact your airline for check-in times. We encourage you to take advantage of the shore excursions offered by your cruise line and avoid arriving at the Airport too early for your flight. 

Where can I store my baggage?

Public Baggage Storage is available in Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4. Enjoy exploring the area, go shopping or relax at a nearby beach. You won’t have to worry about taking your luggage with you. Hours vary by location and season. The Terminal 2 location is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 954-359-5505.

FLIGHT INFORMATION

How early should I check in for a departing flight?

Check-in guidelines are one hour before domestic flights and two hours before international flights. It is always a good idea, however, to check with your airline or tour operator for updates on your departure day.

What documents are required at the Security checkpoint?

You will be required to show your boarding pass and a photo ID or visit the Transportation Security Administration web site for the latest information.

I'm picking up a friend at FLL later today. What is the best way to find out if the flight is on schedule?

To find the status of any flight, access the Real Time Flight Information.

Where can I find a list of approved and prohibited carry-on items?

The Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) web site provides abundant security tips and is an informative resource about the items you can and can't bring on board an airplane.

We're traveling to the Caribbean later this month. Are the gifts we bring back subject to customs declaration?

Are citizens of all foreign countries subject to immigration procedures?

Can I accompany a minor or a passenger with special needs to/from the gate area if I am not flying?

In some cases, non-ticketed escorts may accompany minor children traveling alone or passengers needing special assistance to the gate. You must obtain a gate pass at the airline ticket counter where the person is flying. Please note that gate passes are issued solely at the discretion of the airline and not all airlines will issue a gate pass. You must show a valid government issued photo ID to receive a gate pass.

When I change flights, or recheck my luggage, do I have to go through security again?

If you are changing terminals, or arriving on an international flight, you will have to go through security again. At this time, none of the post-security areas of our terminals or concourses are connected. For a map of the Airport, please visit Where is My Airline?    

How early can I check my baggage?

The answer varies by airline. Typically you can check your bags anywhere from two to four hours prior to your flight. Contact your airline for specific information. Passengers can also store their baggage at Bags-To-Go. 

What are my airline’s ticket counter hours of operation? 

Airline ticket and baggage counter hours vary by company. Generally, ticket counters open two to three hours prior to a scheduled departure. Passengers should contact their airline for specific information.

Does Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport provide services to the general aviation community?

FLL offers comprehensive aircraft maintenance and repair services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How do I find out information about the Duty-Free shops?

Duty-Free Shops are located in Terminal 2 -Concourse D, Terminal 3 - Concourses E and F, and Terminal 4 - Concourse H. They are all located post security and available only to ticketed passengers. The Duty-Free Shops are open two hours prior to international departure times. For more information, contact Broward Duty-Free at 954-359-9032.

PETS

What is the Airport’s policy on traveling with pets?

All non-service animals must be kept kenneled, in proper carriers, while in the Airport's facilities. 

The Airport does not determine any policies related to transporting pets either as checked or carry-on luggage. Passengers should contact their airline for requirements and fees.

Do you have Pet Relief Areas?

The Airport provides five designated Pet Relief Areas with complimentary waste disposal bags. They are located on the lower level, outside of each baggage claim area. Look for directional signage inside the terminal, above the exit doorways. 


RENTAL CAR CENTER

Where is the Rental Car Center located?

Who are the companies located at the Rental Car Center?

ACE Rent A Car, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, E-Z, Hertz, National, Payless, Royal, and Thrifty. For more information, go the Rental Cars page.

Where do the other rental car companies that are not at the Rental Car Center pick-up their customers?

The off-site rental car companies pick up their customers outside the main entrance of the Rental Car Center building, located at the third floor level l. Follow the signs to Bus Stop Seven for off-site shuttle customer pick-up.

How do I get TO the Rental Car Center FROM the terminals?

From Terminal 1 - located at concourse B is a pedestrian bridge that connects directly to the Rental Car Center. From Terminal 2, 3, & 4 - there are courtesy shuttles to the Rental Car Center that are located at the ground transportation area on the arrival level.

How do I get TO the terminals FROM the Rental Car Center?

To Terminal 1- located at the 2nd Floor level is a pedestrian bridge that connects directly to concourse B of terminal 1. To Terminal 2, 3, & 4 - located at the 3rd floor level, outside the main entrance of the Rental Car Center, are courtesy shuttles that are located that transport passengers to each terminals, except Terminal 1.

Can I take my smarte carte inside a courtesy shuttle bus?

TERMINALS

What are the Airport’s hours of operation?

The Airport is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, unless an emergency is declared.

Do you have a hotel or rooms to sleep on the Airport property?

We do not have an Airport hotel or rooms for sleeping. However, there are numerous hotels located within five miles of the Airport and many of them have complimentary shuttles. Visit the Greater Fort Lauderdale Visitors and Convention Bureau. Select Hotels from the left menu, then select Airport  Hotels. You can view a map with the locations of all the nearby hotels. 

Can I sleep overnight in the Airport?

Yes, you can remain in the Airport overnight. However, you will want to consider the following before deciding to sleep at FLL:

  • You can only stay in a pre-security waiting area (not on the concourse) for the night. 
  • Our seating is attached chairs with arm rests. 
  • Heavy-duty cleaning is often conducted at night.
  • Food and beverage service is limited during these hours. Visit the concession closing/opening times that is listed by terminal.  
  • It can get cold in the terminals, so bring warm clothes.

If you decide a hotel is a better option, visit the Greater Fort Lauderdale Visitors and Convention Bureau. Select Hotels from the left menu, then select Airport  Hotels. You can view a map with the locations of all the nearby hotels. 

Where can I smoke at the Airport?

FLL is a smoke-free facility. Smoking is only permitted outside of the terminal buildings.


TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN THE TERMINALS

How do I get from one terminal to another?

Located at the lower level of each terminal entrance, you can catch a courtesy shuttle that will transports passengers from terminal to terminal. Shuttles operate from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. 

How do I get to each terminal from the parking garage?

A courtesy garage tram operates lower level in the Palm and Hibiscus parking garages only. The tram stops at designated pick-up and drop-off locations which service all terminals. The service is available every eight minutes 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How do I get to Miami International Airport (MIA)?

There are four transportation options to MIA: shared ride, luxury sedan, taxi cab, and by train/bus.

GO Airport Shuttle offers shared van rides (per person) for $23 to MI

A van will hold a maximum of ten passengers.

2. Luxury Sedan

GO Airport Shuttle also offer luxury sedan rides (for up to four people) for $72.50 to MIA.

GO Airport Shuttle offers shared van rides (per person) for$21 to the Port of Miami. A van will hold a maximum of ten passengers.

2. Luxury Sedan

GO Airport Shuttle also offers luxury sedan rides (for up to four people) for $70 to the Port of Miami.

3. Taxi Cab

Taxi cabs are also available from FLL. Fees are based on meter readings and estimated at $67 to the Port of Miami. Cabs accept up to five people for the fare stated on the taxi's meter.

Check-In at Transportation Podiums

Check-in for the shared ride, luxury sedan, and taxi cab are at the Transportation Podiums. The podiums are located outside the baggage area in each terminal on the lower level by the curb.

Fees

Fees listed above are subject to change. Call for the latest prices or check the rate comparison chart. The rate charts are posted on the podiums and on the walls near terminal exits in the baggage claim areas.

Operational Hours

The taxi cabs operate 24/7.

GO Airport Shuttle services (shared ride and luxury sedan) are available for all incoming flights. If you need their service more than a few hours after the last fight arrives, contact them by phone.

Waiting Times

Maximum wait is 30 minutes for the shared van ride. Most vans leave within 10 minutes. Luxury sedan service and taxi cabs are generally available immediately.

Travel Time

Travel time is about 45 minutes without traffic. We recommend allowing at least 90 minutes for travel, especially during morning and evening rush hour.

4. Train

Tri-Rail (commuter train) offers service most of the way to the Port of Miami. One would have to take a taxi from the Miami train station to the Port of Miami. For more information, visit Tri-Rail, or call 800-874-7245.

Tri-Rail provides free shuttle buses from the FLL terminals to the Tri-Rail station just a few miles from the airport. 

Shuttle bus stops are located on the lower level:

  • At the west end of Terminal 1
  • Between Terminals 2 and 3
  • Between Terminals 3 and 4

Our Airport has a mix of the walk-thru-metal detectors and Advance Image Technology (AIT) machines.
 

Can I retrieve items that were not allowed through the checkpoint?
All items surrendered at the checkpoint become voluntary abandoned property. All items are disposed of in a manner according to Florida Statutes.
