Broward County to Host ADA Accessibility Symposium January 25
The Broward County Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Professional Standards will host an Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Accessibility Symposium beginning with registration at 8 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center, 1950 Eisenhower Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.
The free symposium will focus on Title II of the ADA, as amended. Topics to be discussed include:
- The 1991 Accessibility Standards and the changes brought about by the 2010 Department of Justice regulations
- Public rights of way in Florida and proposed federal regulations
- Florida Accessibility Code requirements and an in-depth look at the requirements of the Fair Housing Guidelines
- Built environment assessment tool and ADA barrier removal checklist
The event is designed for architects, engineers, building code officials, contractors, ADA administrators and coordinators, interior designers and anyone working in a business or industry impacted by the ADA. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

The ADA team coordinates the efforts of Broward County Government to implement and comply with the Title II provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The ADA team serves as a technical advisor to all County departments, divisions and offices on the ADA and other disability related laws and issues, serves as staff liaison to the Advisory Board for Individuals with Disabilities (ABID), and monitors the County's ADA Compliance.
