The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) section manages allegations of abuse, fraud, waste and other violations of the Broward County Code of Ethics for government entities as well as employment discrimination complaints for County employees and applicants (based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, age, marital status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, pregnancy and gender identity or expression). This section also ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Broward County Cone of Silence and Living Wage Ordinance.

The EEO section is responsible for the following:

  • Investigating complaints of alleged discrimination based upon race, color, religion, sex (gender and sexual harassment), national origin, and disability brought by employees and applicants of Broward County. EEO Complaint Investigation Process- EEO Intake Questionnaire
  • EEO Counselor Guidelines (PDF) - Training and overseeing the Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor Program within each Department/Division/Office. 
  • EOAP Department Representatives - Coordinating with Departments to assist in the development of department based Equal Opportunity Action Plans (EOAP).
  • Training - Training managers and employees on equal employment opportunity issues.

The EEO section coordinates with each county department to assist in the development of department based Equal Opportunity Action plans. The section is also responsible for management training to update county managers on Equal Employment Opportunity issues. The section investigates and resolves cases of alleged discrimination and sexual harassment based upon race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin and disability brought by county employees and applicants.

The EEO Section handles all employee accommodation requests in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
