4-H Youth Development

4-H Logo4-H (Head, Heart, Hands, Health) is open to all youth, ages 5 to 18, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, creed, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. In Broward County, the 4-H program offers hands-on education and fun projects in many different areas: marine ecology, photography, horticulture, food and nutrition, small and large animals, computers, and much more!

These projects and experiences help members learn how to make decisions, develop life skills, and actively participate in the home and community. For parents, 4-H is a family activity that provides leadership and self-esteem training, which helps young people mature into successful and fulfilled adults.

But most of all, BROWARD COUNTY 4-H IS FUN!

Visit the rest of our links to explore Broward County 4-H and all of the possibilities it has to offer!

ATTENTION, SENIOR 4-H MEMBERS!
Please note correction: Dates for State Congress are July 30-August 3.

Upcoming Day Camps

STEAM = ARTS + STEM
June 11, 2012 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

STEAM is the inclusion of the Arts (A) with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Broward 4-H is glad to announce that we will offer STEAM programs. Our next STEAM Day will be Monday, June 11, 2012. This will be a day camp that will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. at the Broward County Cooperative Extension Auditorium in Davie, FL. This day camp is for children and teens ages 5-18. The registration fee is $30 and campers are asked to bring their own lunch as none will be provided. Caricature drawing will be featured during the Arts portion of our STEAM Day.

The mission of STEAM is based on the use of both sides of the brain to promote more active “full-brained” thought. The combination of STEM Left Brain and A Right Brain can create a wide range of new possibilities, highlighting the importance of giving equal weight to the arts, creativity, and the skills of imagination and production. 4-H wants our youth to continue their development with the implementation of STEAM in their educational practices to generate creative ideas.

"We are moving from an economy and a society built on the logical, linear, computer like capabilities of the Information Age to an economy and a society built on the inventive, empathic, big-picture capabilities of what’s rising in its place, the Conceptual Age.” -Daniel Pink, A Whole New Mind

All curricula are research based from several Land Grant Universities. For more information please contact Rina “Yoli” LaRosa at 954.357.5270 or e-mail 4-H@broward.org. Registration deadline is June 8, 2012. Space is limited, to reserve your spot and register go to: broward4h.eventbrite.com.
