Beach Management Program

Broward County has 24 miles of beautiful beaches. In 2005-2006, 6.8 miles underwent renourishment to widen the beaches that had been eroded by storms and wave action.

Reefs

The natural and artificial reefs of Broward County make the marine environment a mecca for scuba divers.

Mooring Buoy Program

122 mooring buoys have been installed over 6 locations along Broward's reef tract to allow boaters to enjoy the marine environment without damaging the reefs by anchoring.

Manatees

During the winter months, Broward can have a manatee population numbering in the 100s.

Sea Turtle Conservation Program

Well over 1500 sea turtles nest on Broward's beaches during the spring and summer months.

 ADDITIONAL PROJECTS
Each year, The Ocean Conservancy conducts their International Coastal Cleanup. Broward's Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department coordinates the local cleanup effort in Broward.
Broward County is working with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to remove thousands of waste tires dumped offshore of Broward in the early 1970s. Click Waste Tire Removal for the project overview.
